simplex I can only think that more post processing of a signal, smooths out the flicker, making it more tolerable. Basically eye's reflexes are not triggered that much, as it starts to perceive everything as noise.

I have added GPU dithering, and got more pressure. The problem is monitor have only HDMI and I cant force it in 6-bit via CRU 🙁

My phone also have dual red spectrum peak ( not so big ), previous phone - also had KFC dual red peaks - no issues. Also laptop probably has it, but I can use it in 6-bit mode only (setting 8-bit gave extra strain) + reduced contrast to mininum in intel grapfics. Laptop panel also have 8-bit specification in panel datasheet 🙂

rtx30 gen cards also gave me similar effect when I watched for wallpaper - all looks very smooth and no details, also I noticed it was very bright ( keeping same monitor and OS settings ). Cant remember what about jpeg ring artifacts 🙁

It seems, modern GPUs and modern monitors, use post-processing, which kill image details and apply some kind of smoothing ( dithering )

First of all, I found it hard to focus on screen / text. It looks like text below the screen. In panel edges, I found 3d effect - icons looks much closer to me than background.

Yeah, I’m inclined to agree with you. It seems like it’s not just an either or scenario but probably a combination of the KSF spectrum plus some other compensatory software tricks that are hard to distinguish without additional tools for testing. Throw in MacOS processing to the mix and it gets more complicated

I think you’re dead-on. Lots of Apple patents reference using techniques to mask flicker from a variety of sources. I doubt they’re the only company doing this. Good noise vs. bad noise. Very challenging to determine which is good for some and bad for others. One of those “you have to try it for yourself” situations which always sucks.

AshX Have you tried on macbook pro 2015 intel to disable dithering using those dither=0 parameters ? Does it help with Dell monitor ?

I returned the monitor within the return period. I attempted this on a 2015 15” MBP Intel i7 on Catalina and it does not work. Nothing returns back when entering the Terminal command and you can still feel it dithering aggressively. Mine also has gray color flicker which I think is probably the bigger trigger.

These are 27" 2k 165hz 8bit LG panel and very eye friendly

Aquila Could you provide some more details on G27gr75q ? Are you using with specific macbook or PC ? What is their GPU specs ?

Seems good but not perfect, IPS are not good as VA in my opinion, you can't see strain but you can perceive fatigue

I'll test all my monitors in the next days with GPU Nvidia and AMD.
Omen 27q in arrive, but I had to win the lottery (LG panel not BOE 🤞)

Aquila I was thinking about Philips 34E1C5600HE as it was well selling model right now, for office and light games. It is 100 Hz, Wide QHD, VA panel and they state its flicker free. But I think philips is partnering with BOE, so not sure based on your last comments. All I know is AOC is also value for money brand, so if LG is considered to be more expensive, it would be less likely they will get their panels. This however should not affect those parameters they have stated in the specs.

And aggregator suggests this would be not obvious supplier, maybe this is where the key trick is:
