JTL Not sure, one thats used for proper optometric research. He wants to obtain from Germany where he goes often and they make them there.
diop Well, we dont know for sure. PWM is one thats accepted now, but pretty much anything that doesnt allow for proper eye fixation to keep your strabismus/heterophoria in check - font rendering, subpixel rendering, subpixel flicker, dithering, blue light... I think they know now, or at least about some of those, but they will never admit it. Maybe theyll secretly remove it with some minor update. But theyll never admit it was wrong before. I think theyll just make new tech and market it as eyesafe without ever admitting that what they made before wasnt eyesafe.
My optometrist said there is a significant rise in heterophoria/strabismus/diplopia patients. He has same issue as me, recently bought a new laptop and said he can clearly see a connection between his headaches and the new laptop. Up until now he was using win 7 and an older laptop. So maybe more people are finally noticing.
I have a research prepared on tech university here where we would measure all the possibilities (dithering, font rendering, pwm etc.) with a microscope and high speed camera on good and bad tech. Thats the most scientific I can get, but it takes some time for the guy to get it set up and ready, as its a lab that many people use.
I also recommend writing down all issues, as I found out when I do get a headache from this, I tend to attribute to this issue stuff that doesnt relate - the pain is overwhelming, so when I have a bad tooth, unrelated fever, illness etc., I think that its all from this tech and that its getting worse. Its hard to separate since this issue affects cognition when it happens. So kids can have anxiety from new tech, but also maybe not.
People who do not have any sort of heterophoria are not (immediately) affected, people who do are. This alone should be enough for a proper attention to be given to this, esp. since 80% of people have a certain form of heterophoria. Its like food allergies, alternatives and warnings. This should be given in tech too. Or someone just finally make a color and responsive e ink.
Regarding an update of my condtition - I was told I broke every record he thought possible, that the way I can compensate the issue now is unseen before and they use my example to motivate other patients. But that theres lot of room to still improve, esp. in long term use, so I dont get headaches writing or reading on new tech. Also that theres no way to ever fix it as if it didnt exist. Only via operation and thats not recommended as it doesnt always work.
He also noticed, since I was using mac for reading/writing night before, that the morning after during the examination I started having visible ticks in my eye and strabismus. He made a video of it and will present it at a conference. I told him that this only happens from the new mac and phone and new tech in general, and never ever happend from anything else. Simply, I can compensate my condition very well in all circumstances, and only new tech triggers it. That will get mentioned too.
