KM I forgot to mention eye twitching among my symptoms. Recently a few times I had very worrying twitching in the upper part of my left arm too. Really macroscopic spasms at the point that I could see the shirt moving badly. Unbelievable. Looks like my body is telling me it can't take more.
Here is what I have been doing without much success:
- B12 vitamins in drops. Helped a bit because at a certain point I could barely keep my eyes open. Not the solution though.
- Acupuncture for 13 months. Last week I explicitly asked to stimulate nerves around my eyes. Got some relaxation of my face muscles, but 13 months are a period long enough to say this is not a solution.
- Mouth guard or bite for 6 months +. Hopefully it will preserve my teeth as I tend to be quite nervous during sleep, but I have not seen any neat effect on my eye symptoms.
- 4 months of physiotherapy after a modest injury which prevents me from jogging. Focusing on releasing neck (and low back) tension. Therapist is happy of my progress, but can't understand the severity of my eyestrain and eyestrain-induced neck pain. He looks at me as if I were nuts when I tell him the impact lighting and phones have on my health. He is happy of the progress, I am not that positive, to be honest.
- I visited a number of ophthalmologists. After the nth visit, given my evident eyelid twitching, my case was considered worth more than a pat on my shoulder and I was granted a brain MRI. Negative. My brain is fine.
- I tested orange googles that cut blue light. No improvement.
- I spent considerable amount of time looking for someone who could provide vision therapy and assess whether I suffer from heterophoria. Unfortunately, I could not find anyone even in first neighboring countries.
- I took spectrometer measurements of the lights that bother me but could not draw any strong conclusion. I suspect light color / artificial light spectra deviating from sun spectra affect me badly, but I need to investigate further. No solid understanding of flicker effects.
I will try to make an appointment with a psychosomatic expert when I get back to Europe for Christmas. At this point I am open to try anything, and I prefer to interact with someone who listens and thinks, rather than a "regular" doctor that considers me hypochondriac. Thanks for sharing.
As to areas of improvement, my sleep pattern has been terrible for many years. I wonder how much it weighs on my condition.
I have been struggling living under air-conditioning 24/7. My chronic sinusitis is not acute but steadily bothers me, and that seems to affect my eyes too. ENTs here tend to cure with antibiotics and do not prescribe steroidal sprays which helped a lot in the past. But I am not convinced curing my sinusitis will solve my eye issues.
Just one question. Why are you wearing even stronger glasses if they have not helped? Do stronger glasses mean your condition got worse? @martin Your condition improved a lot. What about glasses, did you get rid of the prismatic lenses or did you need stronger ones over time in spite of the progress?!?! Thanks!
