First post, I'd make a thread if I could but I'm locked out from making one, so I'll do it here.

I sincerely think you people on this forum are all slightly overexaggerating your issues. Sure, there are some outliers here and there, but I really think most of issues you have can be categorized in the following post by Chief Blurbusters, a man who has been in the display industry for years. https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9211&p=73184&hilit=ccfl#p73184

Another good thread/post, check Chief's replies: https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7772&hilit=dithering
Decent one too: https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3624&p=28953&hilit=dithering#p28953

There is a lot of misinformation laid out on this site regarding effects of PWM, dithering, LCD response times, LCD inversion artifacts, so I'd rather see you people read out similar posts that Chief has posted throughout the years instead of repeating weird theories which most of the time are MEGA placebo.

Also, I'm sorry if I have offended anyone in any way, there are always outliers with medical conditions…

Oh, and another information which seems to not have been posted here, PWM has to be at least in the 10-20kHz range to be 'undetectable' by humans in studies posted by Chief. Considering most if not all laptops are nowhere close that value, I wouldn't be surprised if most issues on these forums are related to PWM, bad motion blur and LCD artifact inversion (read thro Chief's posts, he has done many replies regarding eye strain on displays)
Thanks for reading through my wall of text and sorry again if I have offended anyone.

    rahua who are you?
    What are you doing here?
Why do you care about symptoms you clearly never had?
Why would you spend your time explaining people they have placebo effects?

So many questions with no answers.
If I was a moderator here I would ban you.

Since this became a separate thread, i'd like to add that for my smartphone eyestrain i tested: a single full-screen (motion excluded) simple red, rgb(255,0,0) and green, rgb(0,255,0), image (blue subpixel excluded) with pwm disabled by both dc-dimming and oled saver and undetectable by a pencil test (pwm excluded) through professional uv-blocking eyeglasses, which not only block uv but a most of blue spectrum (uv excluded, blue spectrum excluded). Still hurts. Compared with a control group: image at another screen doen't hurt. My previous absolutely safe device has 240 Hz pwm. LCD inversion was examined with test images for every LCD inversion type.
This is how you experiment. Science 101.
If anyone wants to try it, btw, it could help with defining what problems are not yours.
I would also say that a common experience of upgrading an os and getting an eyestrain is an experiment good enough, unfortunately, OP ignored that.

rahua I sincerely think you people on this forum are all slightly overexaggerating your issues.

Hi rahua, and welcome to LEDStrain!

I have had this what you called issue for approximately 10 years. In that time i have visit 10+ specialist, mostly eye-specialists. Because this is an very unusual problem sometimes people don’t believe it’s real. That is a normal reaction, because it’s like 200 people on this forum, that’s like a tear in the ocean.

What we can see on this forum is that some (or maybe many) people has some kind of BVD or similar, and that they mostly triggers on dithering/flicker from LED-screens/lights. Let say that because of the BVD or similar the brain gets wrong signals and then sends the wrong signals to the eye muscles.

The information about screen, flicker and so on you are referring to is general knowledge for some. At least me. I have a couple of super-nerdy tech friends. The problem is that the brain somehow get the wrong info and sends wrong info back to the eyes muscles.

For me it was maybe the LASIK i did 19 years ago that changed my eyes so i got this problem.

Back in 2015 i could work 3x20 minutes a day behind an old before-led screen, so don’t say people is overexaggerating this issues. My eyes muscles was hurting so much.

If you are willing to come to Sweden, i am happy to see you and discuss this problem. My girlfriend is a nurse, she can also tell you about my eye-problems for the last ten years with “newer screens”.

Hope my post helps so you can understand more about your issue, or what i like to call it, a problem.

If you have some more questions i will happily answer them 🙂
