Hey all,
I wanted to share some great news about some lenses I found. I ordered these about 2 weeks ago and have been using them regularly since then (I thought I'd give them an extensive trial period before drawing any conclusions and making any recommendations on here).
I'm very happy to say that these have noticeably reduced my symptoms from flickering screens 🙂
They aren't perfect by any means, I definitely still experience discomfort after extended exposure to flicker. Still, it's a massive improvement from my previous setup (Prism Lenses + 99.9% Blue Blocking Clip-Ons). I'm now using my prism lenses + Avulux instead.
To give a real-world example: I've been using my MacBook Air 2020 for an average of about 2-4 hours a day recently. While I have had some symptoms at the end of the day, they're much less painful and don't last nearly as long.
I've personally tested a myriad of non-prescription lenses in the past few years (Polarized, FL-41, various Blue Blockers, SCT-Orange, IR Blockers, UV Blockers, etc) without any real success, so I was honestly very surprised that these worked for me.
From my understanding, these lenses block 97% of blue, amber, and red light, while still allowing green light. I'm currently working with my ophthalmologist to figure out exactly why that combination works for me, and if that could potentially help us find the root cause. The current theory is some kind of light sensitivity or specific sensitivity to parts of the color spectrum. I'll definitely share any info I learn from her.
A few caveats - First, they're expensive. I paid $300 + tax for mine, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to get my insurance to cover them. Not super happy about the price, but they're worth it in my situation. Second, each of our cases seem pretty unique, so they may not be as helpful for you. I'd highly recommend trying them if you're interested. I'd be curious to see if anyone else notices a similar kind of relief.
