Usable Smartphones?

Vividblu99 Yeah it was still bad at 60hz. I recall you said that when you looked at its screen using your new microscope you saw some moving, grainy kinda pixels. have you figured out what that was? Almost every device that strains me kinda has that. Was that not dithering?

ban Sometimes I have the feeling that "knowing" that a device could trigger problems… will eventually trigger problems for me. Not sure how much is real or how much is just looking for the bad effect.

I kinda wonder this too about myself. I use a Pixel 4a daily, but if I looked up the PWM or whatever on it I probably would have avoided it. Heck, I even used it on a carousel with my kids a couple hours ago with no issues at all.

That said I have tried to "push through" a few things (M2 Air last week) and just couldn't so it's really hard to say what's real and whats placebo.

And what about the IPad 10? Notebook check says that has no PWM and no dithering either.

Rui Hey man what were previous phones that you've been able to use in the past before the Xiaomi 13? Are you still ok with this phone?

I was ok with Xiaomi 13. Sold it yesterday. Not because It gave me problems. First I can't get used to compact phones. And despite Xiaomi 13 had a 6.36" screen it felt like it was under 6". Second I use most of the time my work phone. So to keep something so expensive to use it from time to time (and always thinking about the size). I don't like that. It was to expensive.

Before Xiaomi 13 the only phone that didn't give any problems was Xiaomi 11T Pro. I even had antiflicker option off on Xiaomi 11T Pro. I never tried turning off this option on Xiaomi 13 because I felt the screen was more "aggressive" than Xiaomi 11T Pro screen. But my eyes were ok with Xiaomi 13.

I'll be on a look out for this device as well. It sounds promising and appears to be different from the impression of the X50i which was the China version.

With X50i I was certainty sure it has flickering.

I'm thinking here that Honor might be using diifferent panels for different region. Probably that might be why the difference!

You were 100% right about the Honor 90 Lite!

Someone tested it with their opple light master, and it detected a frequency of 9846hz, with a modulation depth ranging from 4 to 23% ☹️😩

Contrast level low as possible. Even around 900-> I get eye strain. And no PWM at all. For me it has to be 720p screen. So the phones are cheap. This is Motorola e32s

QlaGzr You could try the Honor 70 Lite (720p), or Magic 4 Lite 5G. Both have very low contrast displays.

Or even the Realme 7 5G.

My work phone, the horrible Samsung A32 5G (with LCD), has a problem with the fingerprint sensor so I had to take it to repair. In the store they gave me a replacement phone while Samsung is being repaired.

It's Oppo Reno 4 Z 5G 8GB/128GB. It has a nice LCD (contrary to the horrible LCD from Samsung) and doesn't give me any problems. It's a nice phone with no bloatware. To bad it's from 2020. So it won't get any more updates (stuck on android 12/security patch from 2022).

1st time I'm using an Oppo phone. I won't buy this model (Oppo Reno 4 Z) for me since it's outdated. But today I tried for a few minutes an Oppo A98 in the store. It was released this year and as an LCD. Might try it.

EDIT: just saw the specs for this Oppo A98. Nop….

Rui The Oppo's I've used with LCD displays have been decent (A77 5g, A74 5G). I've also briefly used an A96 4G. Wasn't too bad. But they're all low specced.

The A98 5G is also underspecced, using the 695g chip. Not sure why they never chose the newer qualcomm 6 series chip or even the new dimensity 6/7 series.

According to notebookcheck, the Huawei Nova 11 Pro has permanent DC dimming:

They've listed the permanent DC dimming as a "pro" in their conclusion.

I'm uncertain whether the Nova 11 pro is receiving an international release - If the phone isn't available to buy on the Huawei website based in your country, you could try aliexpress or ebay.
