I am wondering if anyone has tried migraine supplements? From a book Victory Over Vestibular Migraine, the following is recommended daily (for "normal" migraines with pain, too, as well as vestibular migraines):

  • Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) 400mg.
  • Magnesium 500mg. Magnesium glycinate or magnesium l-threonate seem to be the most recommended. As far as I know, magnesium is a natural calcium channel blocker.
  • Coenzyme-Q10 300mg.

Aside from bright colored urine from the B2, there seems no obvious side-effects. But it may interact with medications, so consult a physician.

I recall B2 helped my screen induced migraines, though I did not persist in taking it due to side effects.

Seagull Interesting. If you don't mind sharing, what side effects were they? I ask because I will try this regimen soon.

ryans, do you have vestibular issues or just migraine issues? I don't take anything, but I do see a vestibular physiotherapist for balance issues as of recently and actually had an appointment earlier today.

Sunspark I suspect I may have screen-triggered Vestibular Migraines. I do get headaches from screens, but not classic migraine pain. My doctors are not really sure what I have 🙂.

Vestibular rehab therapy was recommended as a potential option but I've not explored it yet. Is yours for help with screens or just in general life? Hope it helps you anyway.

          ryans

It made me quite lethargic, and gave me an unset stomach / intermittent rash. Pseudo allergies ,to high dose b vitamins are fairly common so I presumed that was the cause.

ryans Just general life, our body's ability to balance actually uses 3 systems, our sight, touch, and the vestibular organ in the ear. In my case for years now the one in the ear has been getting worse and worse. I have a lost of function in it. If I close my eyes I'll start tilting. I don't expect anything, but I have ear problems and I figured it was worth a try.

Reminder that tech neck (where your head is pushed forward) puts a lot of strain on your neck and can contribute to migraines. Pull your head back.

I started taking magnesium, l-threonate in the morning and glycinate at night, we are supposed to see some results in about 6 months, if we see some symptoms such as diarrhea, we must lower the dose or stop taking it.

For what it's worth I have friends with bad migraine problems who found some relief by avoiding foods with artificial colors (red 40, blue 1, etc… the ones with numbers). Apparently it's been highly correlated in studies. It may not work for everyone's easy enough to try.

I definitely have this problem...too many 10+ hour days at a desk on a computer!

Year long migraine patient here. What I’ve found helps most is enough sleep and no alcohol or chocolate.

As for dietary measures, a bit of magnesium and B’s, but also fermented foods. Umeboshi paste for instance, of sourkraut can really help! And eating raw ginger whenever I feel something coming on.

Also found avulux glasses to be somewhat working, and separate from migraines very good for screen watching!
