eDenon-2 what driver/driver version are you running with the arc? Display port or HDMI? Any specific settings you had to change ?

    eDenon-2 Monitor: HKC VG275QM (27 inch)
    Panel: HVA (8 bit)
    Resolution: 2560 * 1440
    Brightness: 100%
    Refresh rate: 170hz
    Graphics Card: intel Arc A380
    OS: Ubuntu 23.10
    Eyestrain: Eyestrain free

I see Arc A380 video cards can be had for cheap, when I look for HKC VG275QM on Amazon I see an Asus monitor with that product ID, is that the same monitor?

Interesting to see a Refresh rate that high

That is great to hear! Are you sure HKC's monitor is a true 8bit panel? Did you try to pair it with any other graphics card as well?

zimci I only know its a HVA panel, but not sure if it's true 8bit. I also tried AMD RX6400 card, and I feel it's the same as Arc A380.

eDenon-2 Good to hear. I also bought an 24.5'' HKC VG255 SE with IPS panel, actually two. Their QC is a bit unreliable, had to return their 27'' 2k monitor T2752Q (new IPS model, not VA), because it was pretty bad. I use the monitors on an AMD R9 380, they are really soft on the eyes, although I use them on 0 brightness and 0 contrastā€¦

eDenon-2 any chance you'll try windows on the arc eventually? Even without buying it you can run it without activation

            6 days later

jordan No, I feel the AMD card is the same as Intel Arc, just the colors are the same. And I wont use Microsoft things, even try without activation.

eDenon-2 hey - what brand is your Intel A380 card? I can't seem to find a genuine Intel variant, only Sparkle and ASRockā€¦

Gurm If it works the way I think it does (i.e with AMD/NVIDIA) the various brands should theoretically be identical, but in reality they can sometimes have VBIOS variance. Some of which can be forced temporal dithering or other problems.

JTL yeah, sourcing the actual Intel card variants is hard in this case - they only made them for the initial series (770/750) and while a 750 can still be had (for ~$200) the 770 is all back stock or used and will run double that amount easily. The 580 never had a reference board, and it's not clear the 380 did either, so I was curious what brand 380 eDenon-2 had since that VBIOS would most likely be "safe".

He says it's Gunnir, which is unfortunately an APAC-exclusive brand. My options to get it in the USA are limited. So I'm going to grab an Intel reference board 750 and keep my fingers crossed. It'll run me $239 from Amazon, which is a bit of a premium, but worth it if I can use it for a few years without pain. I could grab one locally for $200 (for an unopened box model) or even less on the secondhand market. But at Amazon I can return it...

Gurm Actually from the several graphics cards I have tested, besides NVIDIA, they dont support Linux, the Intel A380 and AMD RX6400 have the same color, and both eyestrain free. So AMD is also safe. From the several monitors I have tested, I find HVA panel is more eye protected than FAST-IPS, this is very important. And I tested them all via DP cable.

                    Display: ASUS VG258QM (24 inch)
                    Panel: TN (8 bit)
                    Resolution: 1920x1080
                    Brightness: default
                    Refresh rate: 240hz
                    Graphics Card: Gigabyte AMD RX6400
                    Cable: DisplayPort
                    OS: Archlinux
                    Eyestrain: Eyestrain free

This TN display is eyestrain free, the only disadvantage is bad viewing angle, you can only sit straight in front of it.

Can you add panels used in your eye-free monitors? Using engineer menu
