If anyone is interested in lowering the white point of the MacBook Pro M2 TB with the good screen, I can share a D55 screen profile generated with a Calibrite Display SL colorimeter. These screens are very accurate after being calibrated to 5500k (Avg DeltaE of 0.5). This is likely to be much more accurate than BetterDisplay tweaks.

(I've always calibrated all my displays to a warmer white point than the native D65; even apart from the blue light and eye strain angles, D65 has never really made sense to me for reading.)

karut So is MBP M2 14 really the one?

And if MBP 2022 14 is the one, why then MBP M3 14 is not the one? In shops they are not even selling brand new M2 anymore.

Donux I meant the 13" model. At least under 60% brightness with the internal screen or with an external monitor I almost have no eye strain. Good enough to work with for hours. Display is not totally still though. Might try a matte screen protector.

It feels better than the MBA M1 I tried.

karut I don't think this forum supports non-image attachments, so here's a link to the calibrated display profile: https://we.tl/t-ZZdQYVUMd9 Let me know what you think 🙂

BTW, for these MBP M2 TB machines, I don't recommend disabling Uniformity2D.

karut Based on what I am hearing, there is no definite solution. Solution should be solid - no crazy tinkering workarounds. The most what could be done is color profile change, that's it.

        Donux

Avoid 14" M2 MBP at all costs.

They're talking about the 13" (USB-C only, with Touch Bar) M2 MBP model, which is different.

13" used to be sold in the refurbished store a few months ago, but not anymore. You'll have to buy used.

Make sure the seller has a return policy, because there is a screen lottery. Only 13" M2 units that show many 00000000 in the LCD panel ID have potential to be more comfortable. The ones with more "random" looking panel IDs are bad.

smilem was the dither test on the s62 pro done on different colors/gradients ?

DisplaysShouldNotBeTVs Ok, I recall, this was kind of one leg in a past type of model, so perhaps they have used some older supply chain parts for it.

Could someone help me with installing this application? When I download it and try to open it, this is the message I get: "Safari can’t open the file “Stillcolor” because no available application can open it."

            Hello Guys!
I need a new laptop. Is there any Macbook Air that is flicker free and dither free (even with apps like stillcolor)?

            Thanks!

dnm3 Is there any Macbook Air that is flicker free and dither free (even with apps like stillcolor)?

              Nope

(Unless you only ever want to use it with an external monitor and never look at the internal screen, but that defeats the point of a laptop)

The closest thing I've been able to achieve to a "portable" "Mac" that doesn't mess with my eyes - is just streaming a Mac (with it's display closed) to a really old and comfortable Windows 8 laptop via the NoMachine app, and then using the Windows laptop as both the monitor and the keyboard/mouse

Hello! Is there any way to disable dithering on iOS or iPadOS using apps like Stillcolor?

ipsumdolor Did you figure it out? Trying to figure out how to install it as well.

DisplaysShouldNotBeTVs Isn't the whole issue is about people not wanting to get back to a less convenient device? i.e. intel based, let say from 2018 macbook pro 13 inch. To me this was last known best device, I was flying with it, it was just like s smooth butter.

I have summarized a method to make the 14/16 miniled screen look easier. After the tutorial, which is not yellow agian, and you can change the screen color. I have a m3 max macbookpro, and feeling dazzled by the screen, so i have consulted a lot of information。It may help you to enjoy the miniled mac. This is the answer github: https://github.com/tangjiahui-cn/blbl-examples/blob/master/MBP16_miniled_resolved/README.md

madmozg before make the setting, i feel very tied while coding with the miniled screen over a hour, and the Color temperature (6500k) look so yellow. while i change to sRGB or DCI-65 and change the color temperatur to over 6500K, and disable GPU dithering, it looks easier like my MacBookPro13 M1,so i write a tutorial for summary.

Hi guys, just want to note that I'll be adding some new CLI features to BetterDisplay in an upcoming release that will make getting and changing the connection bit depth (8bpc, 10bpc etc.) on the fly somewhat easier for external displays on Apple Silicon. Setting 8bpc (instead of the typically default 10bpc on some displays) together with disabling temporal dithering at GPU side might help with some displays.
