Android 14 eye strain
- Edited
I bought a Motorola G54 5G phone because it has an LCD screen without PWM.
As soon as I updated from Android 13 to 14 I noticed the strain on my eyes which obviously comes from temporal dithering (which was implemented in Android 14).
As there is no way to downgrade I sold the phone, bought another G54 (with Android 13) and blocked all updates right from the start.
What can I say? I never ever had any phone that is so good for my eyes! Highly recommended!
The downside is: I fear I will never be able to use any phone with Android 14 or higher.

Reinhard62 Do you have no problem with the same phone before update to android 14 ?
i have same case with you and i already buy the new one with same android 13 but still got headache
hansennnnn I can't say how the first phone was originally. Because the first thing I did was the update to Android 14.
Maybe in your case it's also pwm flickering. Luckily I don't have this because the Motorola G54 has an LCD screen. So with Android 13 it's perfect. I can read on the phone for hours without noticing anything. (And my eyes are VERY sensitive!)
I also get eye strain from Android 14 phones. I tend to think that temporal dithering has been implemented in either Android 13 or 14. Currently I use old phone from 2018, which has Android 9 and never update.
Same, also on 9 myself.
G3RDAS Hello!! What is this 2018 device you use? Please
For me, it is the Samsung A70. I don't use it for games, so it's fine that it's old now.
Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018)
For me the difference between dithering and no dithering seems to be between Android 13 and 14.

Reinhard62 i am sure in my case is not pwm because i can use the same phone before update to 14 with no headache and migtaine but after update to 14 i got headache.
i thought the solution is just buy a new one with same exactly type with original android 13 but weirdly the new phone make me headache too, so confuse
i get headache and migraine while use smartphone coincidencly when start eating oatmeal 2 times a day for my diet program for about a month before,is there any connection ?i google alergies oat make headache or more light sensitive or maybe oat have gluten
or is there anyway to disable dithering ?
hansennnnn I do not think that oatmeal has anything to do with it.
I can only say that for me the solution is a phone without pwm (Motorola G54 with LCD screen) and staying on Android 13 (not updating to 14).
So you have to be lucky, because there are people who use two identical devices, the same model, Moto G54 5G, Android 13. One of them causes eye pain and the other doesn't. How to understand?
