Hello, I’m interested in knowing if anyone here with the same struggles has tried and found this monitor usable? Does it have flicker, PWM, or dithering? I would be using it 3-4 hours per day. I’m hoping to finish my degree, but it’s on pause as I try to find a tolerable device. I’d mainly be using the web and google docs. I don't care so much about the video quality… if I have to watch videos I can switch to my iPhone 11. I’m drawn to the size and that it’s a monitor and not a tablet. It seems like it’s not backlit which is perfect.

Please give your feedback, whether positive or negative. Also, if there’s a similar monitor that would work better please let me know.

I've been using mine for 5 months and I think it's good:

The video was made before I had stillcolour on my Mac, which massively improved the performance of my setup.

'flicker' a little sometimes as individual dots change, can be pretty much removed in settings

'PWM, or dithering' no

I use a Benq Halo to light it now, which was also a big improvement.

'I’d mainly be using the web and google docs' so do I

'It seems like it’s not backlit' it's not backlit, some versions are front lit but I've not liked the build in lighting on previous Dasung monitors.

Do you think it’s better to get the color or black &white? In one review I saw, it seemed that the black & white was easier to read (I wouldn’t be using the light on either monitor).

I have both and find the colour ones much more usable in practice (colour is used for lots of information in UIs and content). They perform well but need good lighting more. That's why I use the Benq Halo.

Try Amazon Kindle (black&white), if you can handle it then I think you will be good with Dasung (Color)

I would not recommend the black and white version Dasung, for a starter you won't be able to see hyperlinks in web pages and the price is almost same as the Color one. Personally for me the comfort was same for both models, however the Color one is much more usable.

I used both models with the front light and it does not bother me, as long I don't make it too bright, aka to match the environment light.
Picture looks static/flat I do not get eye strain, however if there is glare from overhead light or window, even Dasung becomes unusable for me (eg. I can't tolerate plastic menus with glare in restaurants).

btw although comfortable, you can't really use just the Dasung, you will need a second monitor to look some things up. This monitor has some custom rendering logic, so it's not exactly mirroring things as you might expect, some elements on a web page are not visible, once you start bumping contrast then might appear, but some other parts of the site will became too dark and unreadable, so there is not really magic contrast level, when you switch site you need to go over few contrast levels and see which one works best for the given site.
When you open email for example, you might not be able to distinguish which emails are unread/bolded. Tab names are not readable (in both versions of the monitor)...

Overall the monitor is great for coding and reading, and visiting known websites, when visiting random sites you can't trust it what you are missing out 😃 So it's partial fix with a step price.

Thank you, I can use my Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (without the backlight) with no issues, so I think this will be a good option for me.

daniel_mate I can use my lenovo laptop for 15 mins here and there (but it's generally not good). Will the Lenovo have a negative effect on the Dasung experience?

sjix I think when it comes to Dasung, laptop and OS do not matter, since Dasung does not dither.

daniel_mate the flickery eink refresh can mimick dithering like effects. Unfortunately it did with my old boox tab ultra, and hisense a7cc phone (both eink)
