I found this review of a ViewSonic 28" MVA that another man swears by, who now has 4 of them on his desk. This person says:
"I wanted to love this monitor--but it's killing my eyes & I struggle to read the grayscale--not black--text. The screen is very bright, which you wouldn't think is a problem, but it is. I called the company & a ttech instructed me on how to change the settings. He said that once the brightness was reduced, the text should be fine. Not so.
I was able to reduce the brightness, but it still hurts my eyes. Reducing it further makes the screen look muddy, so not an improvement. And, the text is still not black. On apps that have some things written in grey, the text almost disappears.
I tried to see if I could adjust to it, but no, I can't. And that's too bad because the monitor does have some good points. The size (28") is perfect for me and the color is amazing. Really, the best I've seen. Unfortunately, I didn't get this monitor to look at photos--I got it t, primarily, to read text.
Here's the thing, if you have great eyes--which I do not--the less than black, not quite sharp, text may not bother you at all. And maybe the odd brightness won't make your eyes sore like it does mine. For me, it's a not go. Fortunately, Amazon is allowing me to return it."
