Do you think it likely he is viewing his monitor through Limited mode instead of Full color? I've noticed every time I reboot my Ubuntu system, my screens default to Limited mode. I have to use the xrandr command on every boot to get them back into Full color with deep, rich blacks.
Indeed, I just read a review that says this:
"The color problems I was experiencing were related to the default drivers for this monitor being incorrectly configured. Even the drivers on the ViewSonic site are incorrectly configured. This monitor was using RGB Limited mode by default, even after resetting to default using the monitor's OSD. This can be fixed inside Nvidia/AMD/Intel Control Panel software.
Nvidia Control Panel: Under Change resolution, set output dynamic range from limited to full
AMD Control Panel: Under Pixel format, set from Limited RGB to Full RGB.
Intel Control Panel: Under Quantization range, set to Full Range."
I really wonder how many are unknowingly running and reviewing their monitors using Limited mode.
Why is this problem so prevalent?
Here's another one:
"Hubby got me this monitor and I was just complaining about this same thing. Overriding the settings to full fixed it for me, thank you!!"
