si_edgey have you considered simply growing them?

Inoculated the first grow bag yesterday, anxiously waiting to see if it'll take. Few more on the way, as I expect the first attempt to fail. I'm also going to grow the Lion's Mane myself, mostly for fun.

I don't think I'll be able to take CBD oil, oils and fats make my headaches a lot worse. I might be able to consume it the old fashioned way though.

      Oils and fats make my screen tolerance much worse. Olive oil, sunflower oil, canola oil, even some animal fats. I can use the screen I am using at the moment fine, but after eating any kind of cooking oil it becomes unbearable for days.

        First update:

        Tried Lions Mane today. Bought a commercial supplement because my own lion's mane grow wasn't going so well. Its not ideal for testing as it has some ingredients in that don't agree with me, but I wanted to give it ago. First impression, seems helpful. I played a few hours of World of Warships, normally this would result in mild eye pain, a mild headache, and be somewhat difficult to play because of these symptoms. Today though, no headache, eye pain was very mild and stopped when I stopped playing.

        Other side effects: seem more motivated and energetic, but also more anxious. Some mild skin discomfort that might indicate some kind of mild allergy.

        Second Update:

        I've been experimenting with the lion's mane and magic mushrooms for a few days now. The lions mane is quite harsh, it can make me feel jittery and euphoric, and the day after I feel more sensitive to screens and somewhat unwell. It seems to have some natural pain killing capacity. I used it for 4 days whilst occasionally playing World of Warships, a game which previously caused mild eye pain and headaches. Now 2 days after my last dose of lion's mane I can play it without headache, and only very mild eye discomfort.

        I tried a combination of magic mushrooms (just enough to experience a single hallucination) and lion's mane on Saturday and played a few hours of Factorio. This game would normally cause me moderate eye pain and headaches. Upon seeing the loading screen I would feel immediate discomfort when playing this game. Now two days later, I can play it for a few minutes before any discomfort becomes apparent.

        This is all very encouraging and progressing largely as I had expected. I know I can adapt to screen's/software that cause mild to moderate discomfort because I've done it before. The real prize for me will be being able to overcome screens that cause me migraines, I will be experimenting with this next.

        Don't make hallucinogens a regular staple.

        Take a look at your nutrition. Lots of us are deficient in stuff. For example, I am heavily magnesium deficient. How do I know? Because I get brutal calf muscle twitches and spasms that get 95% better when I take regular doses of magnesium. Most of our food doesn't contain much or any magnesium anymore, and we need it for a lot of biological systems in our body.

          I appreciate your concern, it is my hope that I can create a permanent tolerance to modern screens so I do not have to make hallucinogens a staple.

          I'm aware of the risks, namely: schizophrenia and permanent visual hallucinations. But, my reality is a few seconds of looking at an IPS or OLED display will give me a mild migraine, and prolonged exposure will give me a bad one. I've tried normal migraine drugs, and supplements but gotten little utility from them. Meanwhile, these kinds of screens are proliferating, sure the last few years its only been an issue of reduced choice of monitors and phones. But now they are everywhere in supermarkets, in a few more years their use won't be optional. I've already been in one shop which had only self-service checkouts.

          I have been tested for many vitamin and mineral deficiencies. The only thing that was found was a copper deficiency, which itself was probably caused by me taking iron supplements believing I was deficient when infact I wasn't.

          Have you ever undergo medicals tests to confirm magnesium deficiency?
          I have been trying to supplement my nutrition with various products on and off, but, to be honest, only once I was diagnosed with low vitamin D (back then, I really had little exposure to sunlight). According to all the doctors I talked to, there is no need for supplements.
          Ages ago I used to drink products boosting magnesium and potassium. I may give it a go again, and see if there is any effect on my eyelid twitching. However, I do quite a lot of swimming and running in harsh conditions (30C+ /75% + humidity), and have not had a cramp in ages.

            AGI No, I haven't, and in fact, a magnesium deficiency doesn't really show up in blood. However, empirically, there is one, because when I take it my calf twitching (which happens even when lying in bed) is ameliorated. Not cured, just patched up.

              Didn't go to plan. Two days after my second dose of mushrooms I woke up with my vision warping and twisting. Now, nearly two weeks later its better but still present. The lions mane might be helpful for adapting to dithering, but I can't recommend the magic variety even if they seem to help.

                Seagull I appreciate this thread a lot... I've been planning on trying this myself but hadn't heard of lions mane.

                Hey gents, if it's even remotely legal in your area try some full-spectrum CBD. If possible, try it with a little THC - or try CBD that is sourced from Cannabis (instead of hemp). I know it's a "taboo" subject in many area, but I firmly believe it's been essential to my improved tolerance of all things visual. At first I took about 3 drops (!!) of a 1:1 tincture which amounts to about 1.5mg each of CBD and THC. Later I switched to a 2:1 and about 4 drops, which meant about 2.6mg of CBD and 1.3 of THC. I was dosing like this 3x a week at first (with hemp-based CBD as a booster many days) but soon enough I dropped to 2x/week and then 1x/week and now only "as needed" (it's been a couple weeks and I could probably use a dose). It has REALLY helped, is non-habit-forming, won't cause permanent neurochemical issues like hallucinogens do, and is - all things considered - pretty cost effective. (Happy to answer any/all questions about this, by the way, even despite the taboo nature of the topic I really want to help people!)

                  Seagull Sorry to hear that. It'll continue to get better over time, it might never go away but it will get better to the point that it won't bother you. In my case, I only see warping when focusing on scrolling text like a TV chyron or driving for awhile focused on the same point. Side effect of real LSD from a long time ago.

                  AGI Sounds good! I will be curious to see how it is for you. Many different compounds out there, the label on what I have right now says that it is a chelate of magnesium bisglycinate/magnesium oxide 560 mg providing 100 mg of elemental magnesium and I usually take one with food, so 3-4 times a day.

                  Gurm I agree with what you said about the CBD, and also the THC-CBD 1:1 2:1. In my case, I was smoking it every day making my own blends too, and frankly, I was enjoying it because it was helping with stress, etc. But really, everyday was too much, so now just Friday evening and Saturday. Sometimes Sunday too but today wasn't one. It's not physically addictive, but if one is also taking it to shut off/escape that does come with a small degree of psychological dependency which I think it's fair to say I have since I look forward to it, but on the bright side, I don't drink alcohol (I just don't have a craving for it), so, this is definitely the better vice! One reason I stopped everyday use is because I was basically waking up with a pot hangover every morning (they exist, they're not headaches).

                    Sunspark yeah I have cut way back in order to avoid any kind of psychological dependency. I was using it to sleep for a while but I've started rearranging my life so that I'm tired at bedtime instead.

                    its not too bad fortunately, was quite scary to begin but has settled down a lot. Its frustrating that I did it to myself, but also that I was so much more careful than the last time I did magic mushrooms, and lastly that it was seemingly working!

                    @Sunspark I took magnesium (glycinate / lysinate chelate) for a month. I am not sure it is just a coincidence or the fact that I am under more stress, but my twitching worsened within 2-3 weeks from stopping the treatment.
                    I just purchased a new supplement, this time magnesium malate. I am curious to see if the twitching diminishes.

                    Are you still taking Mg supplements? Any positive feedback?

                      AGI Stress is a definite trigger for twitching, and I actually have a new source of it as I was recently laid off. I also really think that it is true that most people are deficient in Mg in their diet. I was looking at a list of top 10 foods with Mg and of that list I currently only include 1.5 of those on a semi-regular basis. I should make an effort to add in more of the Mg-rich foods. I got lazy, and stopped taking the Mg supplements, but I should start it up again because I am noticing this week that the twitching in my calves is coming back, so 2-3 weeks sounds about right. I was also looking at a list of the 7 main types of the supplement, and when I am finished with what I have, I should try both Citrate and Malate versions for my muscles.
