That is only if you want to install it on local meda. On external drives, the official setup does not allow it. So I am using a program called WinToUSB, which preinstalls the windows up to the first reboot. And I cannot install in on my main drive, because I need it for work, and there are apps that require the latest builds.

degen I've reverted my desktop Intel drivers to the version you noted above, 22.20.16.4836, and will try that for a bit to see how it feels. I think I was on a 21xxx version before Windows auto-updated me to 27.20.100.8682. I've never LOVED any display setup on this machine and think I'll probably just add an old Nvidia card to it eventually and/or revert it back to 2015 LTSB to try that out (currently I'm on 2004).

One question: should I be leaving all the Intel graphics settings at default? I think I read someone somewhere that was saying once you try using the drivers for color/gamma correction or any of that, that engages the advanced drivers features like dithering et al.

jrhack I think the main advantage of that driver I mentioned is that it allows the UHD 630/620 to run on 2015 LTSB. I don’t think it provides much benefit on build 2004 over an up to date driver.

MPaz I haven't unfortunately. Tried to find the top recommended one but in general I just went back to 1-monitor usage despite the productivity loss. Interestingly one Monitor which has no issues is the Asus portable monitor - that's via usb-c

      Hey everyone,

I had not been feeling well, but now I am a little better and I hope to be active on the forums again. Glad to see lots of active discussions and I hope to engage with you all soon,

      degen

        degen Take care.

I PM'd with some thoughts on some related things awhile ago.

My only usable combination is now this:

UHD 620 with ditherig.exe, but I'm not sure if ditherig makes any difference

        6 days later

And now, after working one week and 2 days after vacation, I've had zero eye strain with the above combination. BUT - just had a 1.5h teams video call and my eyes are bloodshot. Before vacation I had no problems with teams video with this computer. Now my eyes are again bloodshot. There was some updates obviously.

        In regular use:

        • Sun Vision Display monitor
        • Dell Inspiron 7577 (not good for over 1-2 hours, but it’s the best laptop I have)
        • iPhone SE 2020 — this tiny phone is the best device I have!

        Trialing:

        • Galaxy Tab A8 2022 — feel good about it, but need more testing. When my eyes are well, it is tolerable. More so than iPad. I think they forgot to install color calibration related eyestrain

        Used less:

        • Onyx Mira Pro — A great device, but I enjoy using the Sun Vision Display very much
        • BenQ EW3270U — I thought this monitor was the cat’s meow. But now that I have the Sun Vision Display I feel the strain here quite quickly

        Undecided:

        • Possibly a Mac to try Ashai Linux (which has no GPU driver, potentially eliminating a source of strain)

Thanks for the update! maybe we need a group demo sunvision display we can ship around the US for folks to test 🙂

(benq ewxx never worked well for me. )

reaganry it passes through OS and software related strain unfortunately. I am having trouble tolerating Windows at times. This is why I want to try Ashai Linux on Mac, No GPU drivers yet

            degen Hi,
            I too have HD530

            Setup: Win 1507

GPU: HD 530, 10.18.15.4279, driver updates disabled

Display: asus- va249-he . it's an eye care certified 8-bit VA monitor. brightness 46% , contrast 80%, no color profile availble , 32 bit color

            Ditherig installed("disable all dithering functions")

            Chrome : hardware accelration disabled

Chrome extension dark read installed , to set dark mode when needed and control brightness

No blue light filtering in software or display.

It's decent but still somewhat annoying sometimes

Is there something more than could be done to improve the situation ? What is your best setup with the HD530 ?

I had a very tolerable setup lately : Lenovo y530 laptop i5 8th gen with a boe specific screen (4 other screens were bad before I tried this one) on windows 20H2.

Both nvidia 1050 and intel uhd 630 drivers being NOT installed.

While doing a manip, I accidentally screwed my laptop mobo as well as the edp screen cable that connects the 15.6 inch screen to the mobo.

I ordered the exact same mobo and the "same" edp 30 pin cable but from a different brand.

Now, all things being equal in other stuffs, the setup is not as good at all anymore (feeling jittery, not at ease).

So, either the slightly different edp cable (different brand) is ruining things. Either a perfectly same motherboard could still have "different" intel graphics even if it's the same intel uhd 630. Btw, even if both the nvidia and intel drivers are not installed in my windows 20h2, the output is still made via intel graphics I believe.

I am now trying to find the exact same edp cable I had (same brand) to see if things are back to normal.

I am willing to try old windows 10 versions but like alyosha i can't seem to install them in my laptop. I will try what degen said about irst to achi in bios, hopefully I can find something like this.

By the way, the best display I ever had was my old msi ge 62 apache pro that was running on intel hd 530. God, this display was a marvel to look at, true paper almost better than reality. To be honest, I want to find a laptop with intel hd 530 again, if any have suggestions. I don't think any new model comes with it unfortunately. But i can confirm intel hd 530 was insanely good (given other aspects like windows version and screen are also good).

What I have learned from my experience is EVERYTHING has an impact and changing anything will lead to a perceived difference.

            • windows versions feel different
            • screens feel different (apparently i also prefer certain type of polarisations over other)
            • gpu drivers
            • apparently different edp cables also
            • same gpu with same driver could trigger different symptoms which would mean there is no perfect standardisation for gpus
            • Bios versions
            • different browsers feel different. Try to open a white page under chrome, i explorer, edge and firefox and see the difference by yourself.
            • Different versions of the same browser. Older is generally better.
            • Inside the same browser, sites will feel different. It's very obvious youtube has oversaturated colors, I use this site well less than before cause of that.

The display market is going crazy with all these image processing bs that only make things worse, less real looking, and I am certain nowadays screens are playing a role in adhd symptoms and can even trigger depressive thougts. Our eyes are meant to look at reality or something that looks close to it. Well, we are getting further and further from it which is mindblowing to me, cause it should be the contrary, we should be getting closer to it.
