Hello all,

Over the years, I have tried so many laptops and settings at the OS level, used Iris and Care4Eyes, ditherig, and every setting I can think of…. But every screen is making me dizzy except for my work laptop when it is plugged into the docking station with a generic Dell monitor.

When I look at its laptop screen/non-docked, it hurts/gives me headaches/dizziness.

I just tried a Acer Swift 3 with Intel Arc… and that still affects me (less than the Alienware I used to have).

I have tried Windows 10 vs. 11 and on the same laptop I still got dizzy.

So a few questions:

Is this more of a hardware thing where I would be better off with a desktop (if so, what video card and monitor)?

Is this more of an OS layer issue?

Any ideas of how I can compare all the display settings of when my work laptop is on the docking station to when it’s not (including color temp, etc.)?

Thank you for any assistance,

K.

How locked down is your work laptop?

For now I'd try to replicate a second version of your work system. Get same model, monitor, dock second hand and clone the work harddrive to the second laptop. That way you have a backup system you can call your personal.

Edit: To answer your questions a little I'm in the same boat but have a workable mac atm so just getting backups of that so I can get on with my life.

thorpee thanks for the thoughts. It’s pretty locked down but I am trying to compare settings, hardware, etc. Hope things get easier for you.

Could you detail which screens have worked for you historically, with model name and perhaps specifications too? It would help out trying to form a recommendation.
Most eyestrain issues can be chased down to improper panel choice.

qb74 over the past years, only one monitor has worked and that is when my laptop (work laptop HP ZBook 14) is plugged into it. That monitor is a: Dell SE2422Hb

Given my recent experience with a KVM switch, and the fact you say your work laptop is better when docked, try getting a KVM switch and running your monitor through that.

          So a few questions:

No one knows the answers to those questions, and they are different for different people. There is no "silver bullet" that will cure us, each individual needs to find a specific setup that works for them and then never change it.

I use an older Lenovo B50-80 on Windows 8.1 and no graphics card. Only system I know I can still use.

Socrates Thanks for sharing. I may need to consider an older version of Windows.

What monitors have you tried that haven't worked for you and can you detail your experience with them?

Try a BenQ low end monitor that only displays sRGB. No HDR etc…. I believe they use LG panels and not Samsung along with their own display tech. They are not super bright monitors allowing you to use them at or near full brightness without issue therefore using little to no additional flicker.

                Speaking of kvm switch^
Someone else I remember either posting here or on the telegram said a dell dock which has a HDMI port also made things more comfortable 🤔

Dizzy let us know if you end up trying it and how it works if so. I'm curious if this is the magic fix 😅
