rpozarickij What happens if you remove the patch and turn the light off ? I tried patching a few times before bed time. Afterwards in the dark I would "see" weird light flashes for a while.

AGI I tried this (I was sitting in a well-lit room with my "patching glasses" and went to a completely dark room), and didn't experience anything unusual.

Another thing that I've noticed, is that if I'm using my computer in the dark and cover my non-dominant eye completely (that no light reaches it at all) then I start getting very strange visual artifacts in my non-covered eye. My vision becomes grainy (something similar to an old TV static), but that graininess appears in waves. Very unusual feeling.

It disappears though if I cover only the lens and my "covered" eye receives some light from the environment.

rpozarickij I have a question though: whenever I take off the glasses (that have a paper on one of the lenses) I get a "weird" sensation in the eye that wasn't covered. It's as if it receives less visual information or something and it's just slightly blurry. The eye that was covered feels much sharper than the non-covered one. After a few minutes my vision normalizes.

This happens to me still, although much less intense. I usually normalize in a few seconds.

rpozarickij It also happens to me that it is mainly because of the "shadow" of the patch, as the covered eye is still open during the patch, seeing the patch the whole time, and our brain keeps merging the vision of both eyes.

I'm also started to do patching of my dominant eye. My MBP 2018 is dying and all this new technologies like FRC, PWM are everywhere now, so I want to give it a try. Will try to post here how it is going. Wish me luck! haha

I have a similar thing but a bit different, regardless of which which eye I cover, on the covered eye's side (like on top of the area that is now completely closed) starts getting really grainy but the interesting thing is that it changes based on which screen I use

if I use iPhone SE (iOS 17, it has the most dithering i've ever seen on a phone) it gets REALLY grainy

if I use iPhone 14 Pro (iOS 16, 480hz PWM) there is some grain but not much

If I use a 100% usable screen (1st gen Moto G from 2013 on Android 5.1) there is pretty much no grain at all

Also no grain at all if I'm not looking at a screen

Seems to connect to dithering 👀

Hello, is there any danger in patching an eye? I can't stand any screen and have a migraine a few minutes after starting to use it.

I've tested the patch on my dominant eye and I no longer have any migraines, even though it's quite uncomfortable... The thing that scares me is that after 1 hour of use, I removed the patch and went outside, my unpatched eye was seeing darker than the patched eye, is this normal? After 20 minutes, it doesn't correct itself and that worries me a lot...

Jo09 I am not a doctor, so I can only tell you about my experience.

I have patched a lot. When I take off the patch I usually do it in a dark room, and give the eye some time to adjust to the lights. I also see darker with the eye that has been patched a short time. I’ve got so used to patching, so for me it’s not a big deal. And after five years I am ok.

mike Do you wear glasses? Has your eyesight changed after using this technique? I received my eye patch today and it's very uncomfortable. I also have enormous difficulty focusing and my vision, which was 12/10 in the eye test I took 1 month ago at the ophthalmologist's, is really not so good with the eye patch...

I'm just starting out, but does it take time to get used to it? It's not painful, but it's very disturbing and I'm really, really afraid of damaging my vision...

arturpanteleev Dear Artur, I am so happy for you! And I hope these problems will stay away from you forever. I am also suffering from modern screens. Everything using OLED, Dithering or PWM is killing me. I can only use a laptop with nightlight. Also, I found e-Ink Screens to cause less strain. Even with this my eyes are blootshed, itchy, and I suffer from headaches. 15 minutes of OLED cause almost unbearable pain in the back of my head and around my eyeballs. Apple screens seem particularly harmful.

When I was at my lowest I also started covering one eye, but the weak one because this one hurt more. I shall cover the dominant one.

Another thing really helped me: INFRARED LIGHT GOGGLES (eyemask from Thermrup) or WARMING GOGGLES (eyemask). I use it 15-30 minutes each day and then massage the upper lid (from outside inwards) and the lower lid (from inward to outside), 30 circles each. This helps the dryness and the headaches.

Good health to all of you.

I have this thought, isn't it the case that the eyeglass correction makes it more difficult for us to get used to the screens? When we cover one eye, we force the other eye, (among other thing), to align properly, which may be hindered by the very correction in the glasses and/or the misaligned centers of the lenses relative to the eyeballs. Has anyone thought about these? Maybe if (in theory) we didn't have glasses and patched one eye, it would be easier and faster for us to adopt and cure the problem? What do you think about it?

Jo09 Hello, is there any danger in patching an eye?

I have asked this of multiple neurologists and vision specialists and every single one told me there is no risk of any kind patching long term They only thing they mentioned is if you are patching while driving you need to be more cautious to compensate for the loss of peripheral vision in the patched eye

My personal anecdote, I have been patching daily for work for literally years with zero side effects
