moonpie Yeah I had a lot of issues with freezing/computer crashing when I bought a new computer around 1 year ago. So after a few months I just decided to upgrade to something overkill and see if that would fix it, thats why.

Is there any way I can chat with 1 of you guys outside of here to try fix it? Maybe on discord? Literally willing to pay. ColorControl 10.1.0.0 For example in here, I have no clue what to do. Also the "ditherig" program didnt wanna open, said something about some dll not loading. Never mind, got the ditherig to work.

I could also send slow-mo videos taken with my phone and you could check how my screen looks, maybe you'd be able to see if there's something wrong with it.

moonpie I wouldn't call it trivial, but that's what I was closer to implying.

I agree with @moonpie. If the laws in your country allow you to return a monitor within a certain period and do not impose restrictions on the monitor being used, then go ahead and test it first. You can simply remove the RX7800 from the slot and test with the UHD 770 in Windows/Linux. Remove the drivers or install the Microsoft Basic Adapter Driver in Windows for UHD 770.

You should select "Apply on startup" in the line where you disabled dithering. Restart and make sure the necessary line is highlighted in bold.

it just loaded for a long time then my screen turned black.

Linux doesn't always work correctly with multi-GPU setups.

Isnt there some monitors/cpu/gpus that are confirmed safe by multiple ppl that I can just buy?

It all depends on individual eye sensitivity, which varies for everyone. I use the ASRock Intel Arc A770 Phantom Gaming D OC (A770 PG 16GO). For my eyes, it provides a very comfortable picture in both Linux and Windows 11, with no dithering in either operating system. In terms of comfort, it should be similar to your UHD 770. I suggest trying the UHD 770 first.

This could be an issue with the PSU or RAM.

Thank you @WhisperingWind very helpful, appreciate it. I will try this tomorrow(need to play poker today, free from tomorrow): ”Remove the drivers or install the Microsoft Basic Adapter Driver in Windows for UHD 770.” I have 1 week from tomorrow to tell them if I wanna return the monitor, then 2 weeks from then to actually do it.

WhisperingWind is that the latest Intel driver you use or Microsoft default? Also are you using the latest win11 pro? HDMI or DP?

moonpie A good start to bisect and find out exactly why autobot believes unsupported and EOL lubuntu 18.04 is "safe." autobot can then create his own "safe" distro (autobot's Eye Safe Linux 24.10) which is up to date and share it here.

The suggestion to bisect an entire Linux distro across six years of commits is hardly practical. Bisecting the Linux kernel and/or Linux GPU drivers, on the other hand, might be worth exploring.

EOL operating systems will likely contain vulnerabilities (including serious ones), and the vendors certainly use this as an incentive for you to use their latest version. On the other hand, an OS version with eye strain is a guaranteed threat versus an OS version with vulnerabilities being a potential threat. A sophisticated user who is able to harden or lock down an older operating system, or a user with an offline workload, may be able to mitigate the risks of using an older OS version to an acceptable level, in my view.

Will disabling the internal gpu in the BIOS solve such issues?

        autobot

Yes, it will help because the iGPU will be completely turned off.

I'm using driver version 32.0.101.5768 (dated July 24, 2024). I downloaded the driver from here: https://catalog.s.download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2024/09/2ef13455-fce7-468d-aa96-f3cc995fd787_6af9222a1714a6f19139111abe602ba1163cd11b.cab. I didn't install the control panel or change any settings, so all settings are default (8-bit, RGB).

Connections: HDMI-HDMI and DP-HDMI. I haven't noticed any difference between them.

I am using the latest Linux Ubuntu without any modifications and Windows 11 Home 23H2 (22631.4169).

Trying to make sure I’m not using dGPU. Moved the monitor cable to the right slot but just to be sure should I do something inside of the computer? Remove the cable maybe? To completely remove the dGPU from inside I’d need to get a screwdriver. Would moving/removing the cable be enough?

Or is there any way to check which gpu its using at the moment to make sure its iGPU?

          Jl1994 Hi,
How are things going ? have you managed to get acomfortable setup ?

autobot Hello! Thanks for reaching out. Not yet, I thought I had solved the problem when I saw that my monitor is only PWM free at the highest brightness. https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/proart-display-pa278cv I thought that was why I felt better at the start and then worse later on, thought I had turned down brightness. :edit Actually I see now its not the exact same monitor reviewed here as the one I have. I have cgv not cv. However turning the brightness to max didnt help so I bought HP omen 27q to test, that didnt feel good either.

Currently thinking of buying new hardware to test, just not sure exactly what to buy. Thinking intel arc for graphics but not sure if I should try replacing something else too like motherboard. Its been kinda overwhelming reading about all the things that could cause problems.

              Start with exercises:

After doing exercises for my exercises as outlined on page 93 here a couple times I day I was able to adjust to my new smartphone. This helped significantly. Perhaps it released some long held tension/muscle spasms?

Edit: I would say I started with the exercises after having the device for 1-2 weeks, till I started the exercises there was very litttle adjustment (initial head pressure as a symptom, then later I experienced eye strain). I honestly the reduction of eye strain was already there even after doing the exercises for like 2x10min in one day.

I also did something else: picking out a focus point on the screen (like a dot or something thats easy to focus on) and trained to hold a steady focus on that point. Then moving the phone away from me and then towards me to vary the distance. I guess it trains the convergence of the eyes. With some displays text appears to be moving, this helps somewhat with it.

And working on my SCM seemed to help a bit: https://youtu.be/bHRpaBzaLrc which also helps my forward head posture.

moonpie "Your UHD770 is fine." Is that 100 % confirmed? I just wanna be totally sure. I know that whisperingwind checked his arc and that was fine even on windows 11 thats why I was thinking of getting it

. Oh so the omen is not 100 % flicker free but those others are?

karut Appreciate the tips, very nice of you. I'll check it out.
