twomee Do you know how to stop updates in windows?

google knows: using gpedit.msc, using win tweakers etc

twomee so according to your theory

my quote: noticed, w10 2004 and up with rtx30+ series gives me pain in temples after 2+ hour of usage

twomee it’s related

its related to this and supported/nonsupported hardware

twomee enable dithering

build number very important: windows 10 1809 LTSC 17763.1098, next 2 CPU updates (kb4589208 and kb5035849) will give you eye-strain back

    simplex i found this build:
    Windows 10 1809 LTSC 17763.1075
    is that ok?
all version below 17763.1098 is that ok? 17763.914, 17763.832, 17763.1075
also, from where you downloaded it? do you have a link?

Are you using an integrated Intel video card or a discrete one? in situations where eye-strain is affected kb4589208.
What version of CPU microcode is currently running on your system(and CPU model)? (kb4589208 is update microcode to 0xCA on Coffee Lake system, for example)

glvn Are you using an integrated

Intel Arc iGPU @ ultra CPU. Win10 support Ultra only with 20h2 and later (after 2 KB updates in 1809, I got 1 socket and 1.4ghz base freq instead of 2 sockets and 3ghz base freq at non-strain 17763.1098). Power draw also reduced from 19w to ~12w after those 2 KB's

Finally, in theory, when we get supported CPU (and iGPU) by windows, it starts to dither. In my asus 7300hq + gtx1060 laptop (with w10 1809), dithering by ColorControl is always on, moreover, I changed 2x2 spatial to 1xspatial and finally it change but still dont affect eye-strain. I can disable dithering at all but wallpaper on desktop become full of squares. p.s. same actions at newest win10/11 starting from 2004 (20h1) not affect on final system dithering

jordan do you know from where i can find an old version? I can’t find one

simplex but in my PC i see in the color control that the dithering is off and still have eye strain.

Did you meant that even it wrote is off it’s still on?

twomee it can still be enabled by the OS or GPU it's self or driver. You may also want to try an older driver version if 1809 alone doesn't help. I will say 1809 1098 has been good for people tho

              twomee dithering is off

graphic card's dithering is OFF. but lets name that "windows dithering" is ON. Idk how to turn it off, thats why 1809 is my rescuer

Sorry for asking again, but does installing just one update kb4589208 cause eye-strain problems?
kb4589208 a very simple update and actually only contains a microcode update for the CPU. It would be useful to clarify whether the processor microcode version is related to the eye-strain problem

Or does the eye-strain problem only occur when two updates (kb4589208 and kb5035849) are combined?

                glvn Sorry for asking again

I dont know. I found ~5..7pcs of installed KB, after learning what they do, decided to remove this 2

Yesterday I tried to use win10 22h2 19045.4046, so today I "relax" with good devices and headache lol

FYI I suspect KB5034763 also brings back eye strain

                twomee

I have an RTX A4000 (based on RTX 3070) and measured its output with a lossless capture card in Bios (no dithering by default) and with dithering disabled in Color Control (no dithering picked up either in Windows) but its still doing some type of dithering that cant be picked up by a capture card as the colors look very over exaggerated/noisier than all my other GPU's. I also tested this very thoroughly on builds 1809: 17763.1098, 17763.107, and 17763.55 and it was still unusable. So far i havent seen a single success story with any Ampere cards based on the GA104 https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/nvidia-ga104.g964

simplex Unusable as in causes too much strain to use, before testing specific 1809 builds i tested 2004/20H2/21H2 and several Linux distros, all of them with the A4000 displayed an unpleasant exaggerated/noisier image. When using the Turing based Quadro RTX 4000 which is basically just a RTX 2070 i can use this without problems on Linux and 1809 with no strain just like my old Quadro K4200.

                    Jack

I got you, looks like GA104 issue

My rtx3080 and rtx3080ti are GA102 LHR based chip, no issues in w10 1809. Rtx 2070s is TU104 chip, also OK.

Your Quadro RTX 4000 setup also unusable in win newer than 1809 (havent tested 1903), or you found something more to use?

Well, I tried the windows version you mentioned here and from the installation screen I felt a relief in the eyes. But my problem is I need windows 11 for latest updates for games, some programs which requires 11 version and so on. I feel that the install of windows 10 is not a fully solution, we need to find a way to use windows 11, to disable windows dithering
